Moving Pendragon Forms to a New PC

Here are some easy steps to follow, to move Pendragon Forms to a new PC:

Step 1:  Make a Backup from the Old PC

The Pendragon Forms Manager program on your PC is a Microsoft Access database that contains all of your form designs and data.  You must make a backup of the Forms Manager database before you give up your old PC.

The Pendragon Forms Manager database file is typically located in the

C:\Program Files\Forms3 folder.

Look in this folder for a file called FORMS32K.MDB if you have Access 2000 or Access XP.

If you have Access 97 or do not have Access at all, the file will be called  FORMS3.MDB .

Make a backup copy of the FORMS32K.MDB file  (or FORMS3.MDB if you have Access 97).  If you are linking to an external Access database, you will also need to make a backup copy of your Access database.

Step 2:  Install on the New PC

Before you install Pendragon Forms on your new PC, you should install the following:

-          Microsoft Access

-          Palm Desktop software (includes the HotSync Manager software).

Then install Pendragon Forms from the Pendragon Forms CD-ROM.

If you are upgrading Pendragon Forms at this time, you can install the Pendragon Forms upgrade immediately after installing from your original Forms CD-ROM.

Step 3:  Import from the Backup Copy of Pendragon Forms

Place or copy the backup copy of the FORMS32K.MDB file in a temporary folder on the new PC.

Open the newly installed copy of Pendragon Forms on the new PC by clicking Start…Programs…Pendragon Forms…Pendragon Forms Manager.

The new copy of the Pendragon Forms Manager will be empty – it will not contain your form designs or data.  To import your form designs, click the Import button in the Forms Manager, and then click the Import Forms/Data/Lookups button.  In the import window, select the temporary folder where the backup copy of the Forms Manager was placed, and double-click the FORMS32K.MDB file. (Double-click the FORMS3.MDB file if you are using Access 97.)

A window titled Import from Pendragon Forms Database will be displayed, with a list of all of the form designs in the backup copy of the Forms Manager.  Hold down the CTRL key and then click the name of each form design that you want to import.  Then click the Import Forms button to import the form designs and data.  You should also click the Import Lookups button to import your Lookup Lists, and if you have multiple users and user groups, click the Import Users and Import Groups buttons.

Note for those who are Field-Mapping to an external Access database:  Ideally, you should copy the external Access database from the old PC, to the identical path on the new PC.  If you change the path to the external Access database, you will need to go into Pendragon Forms and re-do the Field Mapping, selecting the external Access database from the new path. Save the new Field Mapping.
