Synchronization

With Pendragon Forms' built-in synchronization server, you can synchronize to a standalone PC, or to a remote server on a TCP/IP network.  Synchronize across the Internet from home, from a branch office to headquarters, even wirelessly.

Every time you synchronize, new records are uploaded from the handheld to the PC or server.  Synchronization also refreshes the handheld with the latest form designs and data from the server.

Data is sent to the Pendragon Forms Manager (an Access database) or to your own Access or ODBC database.  For security and speed, data is encrypted and compressed during transmission.

How Pendragon SyncServer Works

Pendragon SyncServer runs in your PC's system tray or as a Windows service. The SyncServer acts as a network server on port 201, listening to connections from HotSync or from devices using direct network connections (such as WiFi or Dial-Up Networking). A security feature enables you to allow connections only from local devices connected via ActiveSync or HotSync.

stand-alone PC.

Or, synchronize to a Network Server PC.  Connect from a Network Client PC via LAN or wirelessly.

Both Palm OS and PocketPC devices make use of TCP/IP when synchronizing through a cradle connection. When using HotSync, the SyncServer proxy software is used to connect to the SyncServer. The PocketPC client uses the TCP/IP passthrough feature of ActiveSync to connect to the SyncServer. PocketPC devices can synchronize even when using an ActiveSync Guest Partnership.
