Pendragon Forms

Pendragon Forms makes it easy to create a mobile database with pictures. Using an Image field, pictures can be added to each database record. You can create applications to distribute existing picture databases or add photos as you collect data in the field.

Attaching Images to Records

Pictures can be added to records in several convenient ways:

Use the desktop Forms Manager to create records and attach image files already stored on the PC.
On Palm OS handhelds, import an image file stored on a media card to a form record.
On Pocket PC, import image files stored on the device or a media card (Pendragon Forms 5.0 is required for Pocket PC support).
Use the DrawImage scripting statement to display an image from a storage card without having Pendragon Forms synchronize the image. Drawing Images without an Image field
Use the camera built into Zire 71, Zire 72 or Sony Clie devices with a Camera Custom Control (included with Pendragon Forms 4.0 and 5.0) to seamlessly capture pictures. See the Zire71 camera control in action

Image Formatting

Pendragon Forms can display Windows bitmap and JPEG images within the form. Images can be displayed inline with other fields or as a separate screen.

Pendragon Forms can display 256 color bitmaps images that are up to 320x192 pixels in size (160x128 pixels for standard resolution devices) and less than 60k.

JPEG images can also be viewed, but required installation of the JPG.PRC on the handheld. (Note: This is included with Pendragon Forms 4.0 downloads after 10/22/03 or in available in Service Pack 3.) For more information, please see Using JPEG images with Pendragon Forms.

In order to view larger images and GIF files, Pendragon Forms can be used with AcidImage (version 2.5 or higher), a third party image viewer for Palm OS handhelds, from RedMercury LLC. An evaluation version of AcidImage can be downloaded from Red Mercury at http://www.red-mercury.com.

Synchronization & Database Storage

Images that have been imported into form records are synchronized to the Pendragon Forms database with other forms data. They are stored as long binary objects and can be saved as separate files using Microsoft Paint.

Palm OS Requirements

Palm OS 4.0 or higher
A device with an external storage media card (e.g. SD cards, MMC cards and SONY Memory Stick cards)
AcidImage software for viewing .GIF or .BMP images that are larger than 320x192 pixels.
